Winston County completed the 2021 season with a 5-5 record. Last year Winston County just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 2A region five with a 2-4 region record. Since 2010, Winston County has gone a combined 48-78. Their 38.1% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 2A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Winston County has managed to compile a record of 119-151. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 34th in Class 2A and 255th in the AHSAA. The Yellow Jackets are led by head coach Mark Mitchell who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 21-21 over the past four seasons at Winston County. Under his direction the Yellow Jackets have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Mitchell. Coach Mitchell's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 21-21 (50.0%). Winston County returns nine players on offense and eight on defense. Their strength will certainly be along the line of scrimmage. The Winston County Yellow Jackets will play in Class 2A region five during the 2022 season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Yellow Jackets could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region five this season. Winston County came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. The Yellow Jackets open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Addison on Friday, August 19 at Malcolm Blake Stadium. Last year the Addison Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 2A region five. Winston County and Addison have met a total of 86 times on the football field.
